MN Legislature creates new council for LGBTQ+ Minnesotans, Department of Education adds LGBTQ+ specialist

In the summer of 2023, the MN Legislature took a bold step to protect and enhance the rights of LGBTQ+ Minnesotans.

As reported in the Minnesota Reformer

“The new Council on LGBTQIA2S+ — lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and/or questioning, intersex, asexual, two-spirit, and more — Minnesotans will advise the governor and Legislature on bills, act as a liaison between advocacy organizations and the government and conduct studies focused on problems facing LGBTQ residents.”

In addition, the Minnesota Department of Education has hired an LGBTQ+ specialist to work with schools, families, and communities on education-related issues. This position is new and is an important step for the Department.
